Sade: Soldier of Love Review

February 2, 2010 by deadendrap Leave a Comment

Sade doesn’t make classic albums.  Fact.  Sade does make classic songs.  Fact.  This is what we have with “Soldier of Love“, Sade‘s latest release set to hit the stores on 2/9/2010.  Here is the tracklist for the album:

Soldier Of Love

  1. The Moon And The Sky (WIHH Approved)
  2. Soldier Of Love (WIHH Approved)
  3. Morning Bird
  4. Babyfather (WIHH Approved)
  5. Long Hard Road
  6. Be That Easy
  7. Bring Me Home
  8. In Another Time
  9. Skin
  10. The Safest Place

I have listened to the album extensively preparing for this review.  Fact. Immediately you are pulled into Sade‘s world with “The Moon and the Sky“, which is classic Sade and will more than likely become a staple in her collection.  The opening track leads into the aggressive title track “Soldier of Love“.  The album version does the song further justice as we are able to become entwined into the song with the driving drum and bass kick of the instrumental track.  The final standout cut I would like to point out is the anthem “Babyfather“.  This record is deep on so many levels.  As always, there are the subtleties that make this song classic particularly the line “Your Daddy love come with a lifetime guarantee.”  The male vocal touches are perfect for this track and provides just the right touch needed.  Check out People for a complete listen of “Babyfather” more info behind the song.

That’s it.  Newer, younger fans may not “get” Sade or quite understand Sade.  As a mature artist, that is understandable.  I believe that new fans will be a little confused by the single release vs. the more mellow, darker (another description heard used to describe the album) album cuts.  However, after a decade, Sade provides a solid release that any fan of Sade will absolutely love.  As a living legend and one of the highest anticipated album of the 2010 to date, “Soldier of Love” does not disappoint.  Grab some wine, dim the lights, and sit back, sip, and relax.
