Upon first listen of this album, I didn’t deem it a classic. I called it art. That was the impression I received when I made it half way through My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. Others have called it a classic. In today’s world, that is a term that is loosely thrown around to good albums. Classics don’t die. Good ones do degrade over time. They become “that use to be my album” or “i haven’t listened to this in a while” songs. Classics have life and breathe life forever. Back on track, I learned today that the Source magazine has given Kanye West 5 mics for MBDTF. I think this is well deserved. The last 5 mics that the Source gave out was Bun B’s Trill OG. So that makes 2, I believe, 5 mics albums that the Source has given out this year.
Music is alive and breathing strong. As long as we continue to support and embrace those that put out good albums, we will be okay. Of course, we do not need the government shutting down the very sites that allow us means of finding good artists. That’s a topic for another day.
Does 5 mics mean anything anymore?
Screw a rating listen to it either you like it or don’t
